Peugeot developing a new range of electrified sports vehicles available from 2020; withdrawing from WRX

Peugeot is developing a new range of electrified sports vehicles from 2020. Peugeot will concentrate its resources on developing these new vehicles and has therefore decided to withdraw from the WRX championship at the end of the 2018 season. WRX evolution towards electrification is uncertain, Peugeot noted.

These electrified sports versions will be developed in collaboration with Peugeot Sport teams and will contribute to the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions, in accordance with the instructions of the European institutions addressed to the automotive industry.

The Peugeot brand has decided to focus on the development of these new vehicles, in a context where the uncertainty surrounding the evolution of the WRX thermal championship towards an electric mode by 2021 is a reality. As a result, this competition is disconnected from the Peugeot brand’s electrification schedule, which is being carried out in accordance with the plan established with an initial offer as early as 2020.
