Aston Martin, TenCate Advanced Composites partner for Valkyrie program

TenCate Advanced Composites, a leading global developer and manufacturer of advanced composite materials, and Aston Martin announced a technical partnership for the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar program.

Unveiled in March 2017 as the AM-RB (Aston Martin - Red Bull Racing) hypercar, and subsequently named Valkyrie, the mid-engined hypercar features a new, high-revving naturally aspirated V12 engine. Road and track-only versions will be available.

TenCate is the composite technology partner of the Aston Martin Valkyrie program, supplying advanced composite materials for a broad range of end-use applications throughout the car, including structural, cosmetic and high-temperature components. This technical partnership is the first advanced composite material partnership for Aston Martin.

TenCate’s Expert Services team has worked closely with Aston Martin to ensure the best possible composite material solution for the program, developing custom material forms where needed to best meet the unique application demands. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is built around a lightweight carbon fiber structure, and features radical aerodynamics for unprecedented levels of downforce in a road-legal car.

To support the program, TenCate will supply a full material solution with the provision of surfacing films, film adhesives, honeycomb core and their heritage TenCate AmberTool composite tooling prepregs. Materials will be supplied from TenCate’s European Centre of Excellence for thermoset systems, Langley Mill, UK.

In addition to the original Valkyrie, Aston Martin earlier this year introduced the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro—the track-only evolution of the marque’s hypercar. Only 25 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pros will be built. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2020. All cars are sold.

TenCate Advanced Composites began producing advanced composite materials in 1972 in Nijverdal, The Netherlands. Since then it has grown into a key global supplier of advanced composite materials with multiple facilities in the USA, The Netherlands, the UK, and China, specializing in the development and supply of composite and carbon fiber materials for the aerospace, space/satellite, high-performance automotive, engineered industrial, and athletic footwear markets.

In July 2018, Toray, a leading global chemical company and the largest producer in the world of carbon fiber, acquired TenCate Advanced Composites.
