DOE: US exports of natural gas surpass imports in 2017 for first time in 60 years

In 2017 the United States exported 3.17 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas and only imported 3.04 Tcf of natural gas, making net imports negative for the first time in 60 years, according to the US Department of Energy (DOE).
Total imports of natural gas fell from the peak of 4.61 Tcf in 2007 until 2015. Exports of natural gas began rising slightly in the 1990s with greater increases in the early 2000s. Exports of natural gas have tripled since 2009.
