ARB draft of 2018 crude carbon intensity value sees y-o-y increase in CI, volume

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has posted its preliminary draft calculation of 2018 crude average carbon intensity value, with the critical caveat that reporting and data entry for 2018 is not complete for all California oil fields at this time. When reporting and data entry is complete, this draft calculation will be updated and posted for public comment.

The preliminary draft finds that crude carbon intensity for 2018 increased to 12.23 gCO2e/MJ, up 2.5% from 11.93 in 2017 and up 0.7% from 2016.

Volume in 2018 increased to 634,657,960 barrels, up 2.2% from 621,246,732 in 2017, and up 9% from 582,101,235 in 2016.
