DOE awarding $44.5M to 12 projects for advanced technologies for recovering unconventional oil and natural gas

The US Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy (FE) has selected 12 projects to receive approximately $44.5 million in federal funding for cost-shared research and development (R&D) under funding opportunity announcement DE-FOA-0001990, Advanced Technologies for Recovery of Unconventional Oil & Gas Resources.

In 2018, crude oil and natural gas accounted for 57% of all US energy production, with crude oil seeing an increase of 17% and natural gas an increase of 12% from 2017 production.

The projects fall under two areas of interest:

  • Area of Interest 1: Improving Ultimate Recovery from Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources

  • Area of Interest 2: Improving Our Understanding of Emerging Unconventional Plays
