European shipbuilder awards hydrogen fuel cell contract to Proton Motor

A European shipbuilding company has awarded a new order to Germany-based Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH, a maker of graphite bipolar plated fuel cells generating power output up to 73 kW.

This is significant news given that Proton Motor was the first international manufacturer to a power passenger ferry in the port of Hamburg between 2009 and 2014 with a 50 kW hydrogen fuel cell system. The order means a great achievement for us as well as a further sign of recognition in the shipbuilding segment.

—Proton Motor CEO Dr. Faiz Nahab

Proton Motor offers complete fuel cell and fuel cell hybrid systems from development to production to the implementation of customer-specific solutions. Proton Motor focuses on stationary applications such as back-up power and energy storage solutions, as well as mobile solutions such as back-to-base applications. The solutions can also be applied in the maritime and rail sectors.

The product portfolio includes basic fuel cell systems, standard complete systems and customized systems. The official commissioning of the new fuel cell stack machine to start series production took place in September 2019.
