Tesla invests $1.5B in bitcoin; to take bitcoin as payment

Tesla has invested an aggregate $1.5 billion in bitcoin, and may acquire and hold digital assets from time to time or long-term, according to its Form 10-K filed with the SEC. Tesla also will begin accepting bitcoin as a form of payment for its products in the near future, subject to applicable laws and initially on a limited basis.

Tesla said it may or may not liquidate the bitcoin upon receipt.

Bloomberg reported that the cryptocurrency rose as much as 16% to an all-time high of $44,795 before trading at around $43,183 as of 1:30 p.m. Monday in New York.
