DOE issuing RFI on vehicle photovoltaics

The US Department of Energy Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) and Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) have issued a request for information (RFI) (DE-FOA-0002790) on challenges and opportunities for vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (VIPV) or vehicle-added (or attached) PV (VAPV) systems.

As the market for solar-powered vehicles grows, VIPV/VAPV have opportunities to add value to the transportation sector, from passenger and recreational vehicles to light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles.

VTO and SETO request feedback from industry, market experts, regulators, and academia on the current state of the vehicle PV market and industry, as well as opportunities and barriers for VIPV/VAPV, to inform strategic priorities for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
