Benchmark: 73% of N American gigafactory 2030 pipeline capacity associated with automakers

Three-quarters of North America’s 2030 pipeline gigafactory capacity is associated with an automaker through either a solo or joint venture, according to Benchmark’s Gigafactory Assessment. This is a significantly higher proportion than the global 2030 pipeline, in which only 29% of capacity is associated with an automaker.

In China, the situation is reversed: more than 80% of battery capacity is being driven by the battery makers. Europe is more similar to China than it is North America.

Those that begin the race are not always those that end it.
