Cemex Germany strengthens EV fleet with iONTRON ready-mix trucks from Putzmeister
13 September 2023
Cemex Germany continues to invest in more sustainable transport for its products. The building materials company has taken delivery of two all-electric iONTRON mixer trucks from Putzmeister, which will become part of the Berlin truck mixer fleet.
iONTRON is the brand name for Putzmeister electrified products; the lineup includes the P 9G iONTRON Mixer, the BSF iONTRON Hybrid truck-mounted concrete pump, and the BSA 1005 E iONTRON trailer concrete pump.
The two vehicles are the first from the manufacturer Putzmeister within Cemex globally. They will be used in the ready-mix concrete plants in Spandau and Hohenschönhausen.
The iONTRON eMixer is fully electrically powered, reducing carbon emissions by up to 100% depending on the local electricity mix. During vehicle operation itself, the 315 kW e-motor produces no carbon emissions, either when driving to or working on the construction site. The noise level is also significantly reduced by the electric drive; the almost silent driving operation offers advantages especially where strict noise protection regulations apply, such as in conurbations. The payload (nominal fill of 9 m3) is the same as that of a conventional P 9 truck mixer.
The battery capacity of the iONTRON eMixer is 350 kWh; one battery charge is sufficient for a full workday of around eight hours with five to six tours in inner-city traffic. For more trips, the eMixer can be charged in between thanks to a standard CCS/Combo 2 plug. It recovers its full battery capacity overnight at a DC charging station in the ready-mix concrete plant.
This project is part of Cemex’s Future in Action program, which focuses on achieving sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity, and natural resource management with the primary objective of becoming a net-zero CO2 company by 2050.
