Bridgestone sole future tire supplier for ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from 2026-2027 season

Bridgestone Corporation has been named by the FIA at the World Motor Sport Council in Baku as sole future tire supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship starting in the 2026-2027 season. Bridgestone’s selection by the FIA as the sole tire supplier for Formula E, covering seasons 2026-2027 through 2029-2030, will be a cornerstone of the company’s sustainable global motorsports strategy.

Through such supply arrangements with the FIA, Bridgestone will continue to develop and refine sustainable technology and accelerate innovation to deliver value where it produces and uses tires, and then “renews” them to raw materials.

The core of our supply arrangement with the FIA will be the expansion and enhancement of ENLITEN tire product technology, enabling ultimate customization that we define our new premium in the EV era. I am looking forward to starting our activities in the Formula E from 2026 – 2027 season.

Bridgestone positions ENLITEN as its base technology for product design.

In August 2023, Bridgestone announced it was supplying teams at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC) with tires developed using 63% recycled and renewable materials. The tires, which are custom-designed to meet the unique challenges of the 3,000 kilometer race across Australia—including low rolling resistance, wear and weight—mark the first use of the company’s new ENLITEN technology in motorsport competition.

The solution for the BWSC included a tire with recycled and renewable material ratio (MCN - Material Circularity Number) of 63%—an improvement compared to approximately 30 % in the 2019 BWSC event. The recycled and renewable materials used in development of these tires includes recycled organic fiber, recovered carbon black, recycled rubber chemical, recycled oil, and reinforcement material using recycled steel. Furthermore, tires supplied to the cruiser class were additionally developed using rice husk silica and carbon black recovered through pyrolysis of used tire.

In May 2023, Bridgestone Americas held the world debut of its new Turanza EV grand touring tire, the company’s first replacement tire designed specifically for premium electric vehicles and the first to feature Bridgestone ENLITEN technology. (Earlier post.)

At CES 2023 in January 2023, Bridgestone showcased the ENLITEN Concept Tire, constructed of new materials that are both sustainable and energy-efficient, reducing rolling resistance to increase battery range while meeting the demands for higher loads and wear resistance associated with EVs. The ENLITEN EV Concept Tire was paired with Firestone Airide Concept EV Air Springs, designed as part of the integrated corner system to optimize efficiency and ride quality.
