Honeywell expands licensing agreement to support energy transition with new flare technologies

Honeywell announced a significant expansion of its licensing agreement with AFG Combustion and its subsidiary, Greens Combustion Ltd., to include Callidus flares. This expanded agreement not only doubles the range of greenhouse gas-reducing Callidus Ultra Blue Hydrogen (CUBH) process burners but also enhances global customer support.

Callidus flares are advanced flare systems designed by Honeywell UOP for various industrial applications, including refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries. These flares are known for their high destruction efficiency, smokeless operation, low noise, and low radiation.

Some key features of Callidus flares include:

  • High Smokeless Capacity: They can handle large volumes of gas without producing smoke.

  • Low Noise and Radiation: Designed to minimize noise and thermal radiation, making them safer for plant personnel and the environment.

  • Customizable: Configured to match specific process criteria and performance requirements.

The Callidus Ultra-Blue Hydrogen (CUBH) burners are designed by Honeywell UOP to help meet tighter emissions goals in both blue and green hydrogen processes. Key features and benefits include:

  • Dynamic Cavity Stabilization Technology: Allows the burner to rapidly switch between highly variable and changing fuel sources without requiring special operator intervention.

  • Flexible Fuel Operation: Capable of operating with 100% hydrogen fuel gas to 100% hydrocarbon, making it highly adaptable to different fuel types.

  • Low NOx Emissions: Designed to minimize nitrogen oxide emissions.

This collaboration is well-suited for the global trend of adopting energy practices with lower carbon intensity. Callidus flares are essential for the secure combustion of surplus gas in industrial settings and this expansion is aimed at contributing to cleaner burning of gas by helping to reduce smoke and pollutants. Their integration is a part of Honeywell’s range of solutions designed to help encourage the shift to renewable energy and promote hydrogen as a viable alternative fuel.

Since its initial licensing agreement in 2023, Greens Combustion has completed more than 50 projects using Honeywell Callidus technologies. The new agreement builds on this success by incorporating Callidus flares and aftermarket equipment, designed to boost safety and help reduce the carbon footprint in the refining and petrochemical sectors.

AFG Combustion specializes in designing, manufacturing, installing, and commissioning flare systems for various industries, including refining, petrochemicals and steel plants.

The expanded agreement will cover Europe, Africa, India, and targeted regions in Asia, aligning with Honeywell Callidus’ goal of delivering economical and efficient flaring solutions with lower emissions than traditional technologies.
