Renault introduces all-new Master H2-Tech Prototype at IAA Transportation in Hanover

At IAA Transportation Hanover 2024, Renault’s HYVIA unveiled the prototype of the hydrogen version of the New Master offering a 700 km range and 5 minutes refueling time.
This range is made possible by the “Dual power” architecture, an intelligent hybrid system between the 47-kW fuel cell and the 20-kWh battery, which optimizes energy efficiency. In addition, the “Heat recovery” system recovers the heat produced by the fuel cell for thermal comfort in the cabin, preserving the vehicle's range.
The prototype presented at the IAA Transportation in Hanover prefigures the hydrogen production version of the new Renault Master, which will be marketed in Europe at the end of 2025.
From the end of 2025, the production vehicle will be manufactured entirely at the Renault Group plant in Batilly, France, and marketed by Renault. The new vehicle will benefit from the expertise and flexibility of the plant’s industrial system, enabling the production of combustion, electric and hydrogen versions of the Master on the same line.
The new hydrogen version of the Renault Master will be available in van, floor cab and chassis cab versions.
This vehicle will be fully integrated into the Renault brand’s commercial vehicle range and will benefit from all the expertise of a network trained in the challenges of hydrogen.
Bravo! Hydrogen’s worst enemy has been their proponents who have insisted on an H2 only design for too long. Accepting a supporting role as a range extender actually makes sense and gives them a chance to find a niche sans major technological breakthrough.
