Consortium led by H2 Global Energy signs MOU with Tunisian Government for $6B green hydrogen and ammonia project

A consortium led by H2 Global Energy signed an MOU agreement with the Tunisian government to develop a $6-billion green hydrogen and green ammonia project.

Tunisia is the northernmost country in Africa. It is a part of the Maghreb region of North Africa, bordered by Algeria to the west and southwest, Libya to the southeast, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. Tunisia also shares maritime borders with Italy through the islands of Sicily and Sardinia to the north and Malta to the east.

This ambitious project aims to leverage Tunisia’s abundant renewable energy resources to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia, positioning the country as a key player in the global clean energy transition.

The consortium partners plan to install between 1.5GW and 1.8GW of electrolyzers at the unnamed project, producing 180,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen. The project is slated to begin construction in 2028, with commercial operation earmarked for 2031.
