Voltu Motor to deploy 10 high performance class 3 electric work trucks in pilot project in Riverside
04 February 2025
Voltu Motor, a developer of zero-emission commercial vehicle technology, announced a pilot project as part of the City of Riverside’s Fleet Initiative. The project will deploy 10 high performance Voltu3 electric work trucks, showcasing patented onboard fast-charging systems and advanced powertrain technology. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Committee provided $600,000 in grant funding.
South Coast AQMD’s grant approval follows Voltu’s recent EO certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), paving the way for the company’s commercialization of its Class 3 zero-emission trucks statewide.
Voltu’s proprietary on-board fast charger uses the vehicle’s 620 hp motor and power electronics to enable fast charging up to 200 kW from AC three-phase for the 166 kWh battery pack. This eliminates the need for traditional charging infrastructure, significantly reducing associated costs while ensuring operational efficiency.
Combined with Voltu’s high energy density battery pack featuring patented immersion cooling technology, the Voltu3 delivers up to 350 miles of range and dual-motor four-wheel-drive capabilities.
These are the first of the Class 3 zero-emission work trucks to be delivered out of Voltu’s new manufacturing site in Riverside. Over a period of six-months after the vehicle’s deployment, the trucks will be monitored on their capabilities to generate valuable data on performance, charging, and cost-efficiency.
